This Eastlake apartment building was built in 1927. Due to this building’s age, there was a risk of lead paint so I took all the necessary precautions. The building’s property managers were unaware that its windows were double hung - meaning that both the top and bottom portions of the window are able to open and close. 11 of the building’s windows were in need of repairs: some were painted shut, some were missing handles and sash locks, and all required replacement of the sash cord. Because of the accumulated paint on the window sashes some light sanding was required on friction surfaces. No pocket cover existed to access the weights so I fired up the multi tool to make one. Because the parting beads for these windows were painted I replaced them. I use clear vertical grain fir to make new parting beads which allows the windows to open smoothly. When the windows were reassembled and in place I then installed repurposed era appropriate sash locks and handles for the windows that required them. Double hung function was restored, windows open and close smoothly and lock in place. I completed this buildings 11 windows in separate apartments in 5 days.
